Figuring out Your WHY

By Rob Walcher

Some Cave In; Some Bounce Back

There are always people that at the first signs of stress or pressure cave in to the circumstances around them. They immediately throw in the towel and give up. There are also people that when the going gets tough, keep going and get better. What is it that sets these types of people apart?

The answer is simple. The people who give up, throw in the towel and decide it is okay to fail didn't have the motivation they needed to begin with. The reasons why they do what they do weren't or aren't compelling enough for them to rise to the occasion and make a winning situation no matter what. They allow their circumstances to control them, rather than control their circumstances.

Those people who seem to get better when things go wrong, who stand up tall and enter the fight have the stamina and drive to continue forging ahead to meet their goals because their reasons for doing so are more compelling to them. They know how to stick to a commitment and aren't afraid of a bump in the road. They keep their eye on the prize the whole time.

Have a Compelling Reason

Your why will be the central, compelling reason for you to devote yourself and your time and energy to your business endeavor. Therefore, if you have not yet connected to your why you will never have enough grit, courage and determination to keep going.

If your reason for wanting more is simply to make your life a little easier, to improve the living conditions your presently have chances are you will not be able to hold out for the long run. Your "why" will not have enough meaning to move you forward. Once you acquire the things in life that you wanted or set out for you will have little left to gain so giving up will be easier. Even with more time on your hands and comforts you will become bored and les motivated.

If that is the extent of your "why" (the reason why you will set about to change your life) it's probably not strong enough to sustain you in the tough times. There's nothing wrong with wanting "things." Everyone does. But things get old and soon you're weary of them. As to leisure time, that also gets old. What do you want to do with your leisure time? That's where your why comes into play. There must be a strong sense of purpose.

By knowing what your reasons are and by adapting and changing them you will never lose your 'why' or your purpose for continuing to be successful.

Roller Coaster Actions

You may be reading this article because you have started a few online businesses, but when they didn't take off like you thought they should, you quit.

Perhaps it was in an area such as a home-based business (of any type), network marketing, internet marketing, internet businesses, direct sales and or other online money-making programs. And your actions toward them more resemble a roller coaster ride than an out and out fight to win.

If your why isn't big enough to drive you to do something significant with your life, then you probably won't! You may start, but you seldom finish.

Watch for the Signs

There are tell tale signs. If you have any of these characteristics then your reasons for wanting wealth may not be enough to carry through you the battle:

Putting things off Lack of confidence self doubt embarrassment Inability to make decisions Easily confused or taken off track Fear of failing or making an error Lack of motivation Lots of plans, but no ability to implement them UP & down attitude and efforts

Motivational speaker, philosopher and author, Jim Rohn says it best:

"When you know what you want, and want it bad enough you will find a way to get it"

That quote describes exactly how serious your "why" for doings things should and has to be to succeed.

Taking Responsibility for Your Actions

Making excuses is another way of not taking responsibility for your actions and thoughts. Starting today keep a journal of all the meaningful changes you want to see in your life. Include the small and the large changes and use this self written guide as motivation. As you connect to your reasons you will no longer be able to make excuses for yourself and your actions and will take the responsibility to making your dreams come true.
